Oral Surgery
at Georgia Dental Medicine

Dr. Chris Anderson has years of experience and training in surgical dental procedures to eliminate dental infection and restore proper bite health.

During your complete dental examination and consultation, Dr. Anderson will evaluate any teeth that are bothering you and review digital dental x-rays. He may recommend oral surgery procedures if necessary to improve your dental health.

Oral Surgery treatments that Dr. Anderson provides at Georgia Dental Medicine include:

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extraction procedures are sometimes required when a tooth becomes too badly decayed to restore, or for removal of wisdom teeth (third molars) when there is not enough room in the mouth to maintain them properly.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are small prosthetic devices made of surgical titanium that are used to replace the roots of missing teeth. Dr. Anderson inserts the implant into the jaw bone to retain a dental crown or bridge and create a natural-looking tooth replacement to complete your smile.

Dr. Anderson also works with patients that have missing multiple teeth, or are missing all of their teeth, to design implant dentures (partial dentures or complete dentures).

Implant retained dentures are supported by multiple dental implants (also known as ‘all on four’ or ‘all on six’). The denture is fitted with special attachments that connect to the dental implants to hold it securely in place and make it easy to remove for cleaning.

Dr. Anderson understands that tooth loss is personal. He creates dentures with attention to the details to achieve a lifelike appearance.

Implant dentures can greatly improve the quality of life for a patient that has struggled to eat properly because of multiple missing teeth. Our patients with implant dentures often comment that they are enjoying their favorite foods and how good it feels to smile again.

Dental Bone Grafting Procedures

It is sometimes necessary for Dr. Anderson to add bone graft material to a section of the jaw bone to correct a void or defect. Dental bone loss can be related to damage from periodontal disease or severe tooth infection, or, may be a genetic trait.

Teeth depend on adequate jaw bone support to withstand the pressure of biting and chewing. Without this foundation, teeth can become loose and eventually require removal. Successful dental implant placement also depends on healthy jaw bone for stability.

During your surgical consultation, if a bone graft procedure is recommended, Dr. Anderson will consult with you about the types of grafting materials available. He will place your bone graft in the location of the defect during a surgical procedure at our Georgia Dental Medicine office in Marietta. After placement, the bone graft is covered with gum tissue and allowed to heal.

Dental bone graft materials are engineered to attach to the natural bone and encourage new bone growth, a process called regeneration.

Dr. Anderson will check your graft after a few months to evaluate the regeneration process. If a dental implant is planned, he will schedule the placement procedure when there is enough healthy bone to support and maintain the implant.

Dental Sedation

Your comfort is always our top priority. Georgia Dental Medicine has oral sedation and nitrous oxide sedation available to help you relax during your oral surgery procedure. Dr. Anderson will review dental sedation options with you during your surgical consultation.
